This is a bit of a how-to article. Let’s say you have a website or blog and you have some keywords. And you are kind of interested in finding out where the people who use this keyword most happen to reside.

You can find that out at trends.Google.com. You type in the keyword and you get a nifty graph showing how often that keyword is used. But if you scroll down, you will see the nations and cities that most often typed in that keyword.

Sometimes the results are kind of surprising. For example, the keyword "pain doctor" has been typed in most by the U.S. and second-most often by Ireland. "Acetaminophen" is most popular in the U.S. and Taiwan.  "Pacemaker" is most often entered by people in India. "Dialysis"? More people in the Philippines and India enter this keyword into search engines than Americans.

This is pretty important stuff for writers. If you’re writing about medicine or sports or lifestyle, you need to know where you main readers are.
