The Writing Life
About Working Texas Writer

Working Texas Writer is all about the adventures, insights, and advice of a person who has consistently earned her living as writer. Okay, it’s a little low on the adventure and higher on the advice, but the objective is to provide aspiring and floundering writers with something like a mentor. Writing is a great career, and it grieves me that so many people pursue it as if it were kite-flying or some other task where fun is more important than success. Writing is a business. And that’s why this site is called Working Texas Writer, because I am a full-time working writer, not a person who goes to writers’ conventions or writes poetry. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done both of those things, but I’ve never made money at either of them. The opinions expressed on this site are mostly mine. They may not always be mine, in that sometimes I come around to a different way of thinking about things. But they were mine when I wrote them.
